Where the world comes to study the Bible

  • 9. Defining Rest (Hebrews 4:1-10)

1 Therefore we must be wary that, while the promise of entering his rest remains open, none of you may seem to have come short of it. 2 For we had good news proclaimed to us just as they did. But the message they heard did them no good, since they did not join in with those who heard it in faith.

  • Photographing Five NT Fragments in Cambridge

The Center for the Study of New Testament Manuscripts (CSNTM) sent a team to Cambridge, England, to photograph New Testament manuscripts there. This work is needed because most of these manuscripts have only been microfilmed, and the microfilm quality is pretty bad. For one thing, black and white photographs don’t capture several of the meaningful markings on a manuscript. A later scribe would often use a different color of ink to make ‘corrections’ to a manuscript; liturgical markings would usually be in red ink; non-ink markings would be in a different color.

  • 2. The Lamb

    A Precious Word from God

“Look, the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”

John the Baptist in John 1:29 (NET)

My husband and I recently went to the rodeo with some friends. At one point they put little bitty kids on the backs of sheep, let them go, and watched to see how far they could last on the sheep’s back without falling off. I think it’s some kind of children’s bucking bronco contest!

  • 1. The Word

    A Precious Word from God

In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was fully God… . Now the Word became flesh and took up residence among us. We saw his glory—the glory of the one and only, full of grace and truth, who came from the Father.

    John 1:1, 14 (NET)

  • 8. Resisting A Rest (Hebrews 3:7-19)

1 Therefore, holy brothers and sisters, partners in a heavenly calling, take note of Jesus, the apostle and high priest whom we confess, 2 who is faithful to the one who appointed him, as Moses was also in God’s house. 3 For he has come to deserve greater glory than Moses, just as the builder of a house deserves greater honor than the house itself! 4 For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God.

  • 7. Greater than Moses (Hebrews 3:1-6)

  • Introduction to Snapshots of Jesus

    Introduction

There is nothing like studying the life of Jesus to refresh us in our faith! The gospel of John shows us Jesus in a way that no other gospel does. It focuses on His identity and gives us wonderful pictures of His greatness. It is as if John takes snapshots of Jesus so that we get to know Him from different angles and perspectives.

13 But to which of the angels has he ever said, “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet”? 14 Are they not all ministering spirits, sent out to serve those who will inherit salvation? (Hebrews 1:13-14)

  • 6. Understanding Spiritual Warfare

    Abstract

A proper balance should be achieved in one’s perception of spiritual warfare. A Christian should neither ignore the topic of spiritual warfare nor be preoccupied with it. The worldview of animism, which attempts to manipulate the spirit world, is influencing Christianity. Sue teaches how to recognize animism, as well as how to prevent its influence in our thinking. Sue summarizes the series with a three-step program for spiritual warfare, based on James 4:7.
