Where the world comes to study the Bible

  • Greek New Testament Manuscripts Discovered in Albania

As of June 2007, thirteen (13) Greek New Testament manuscripts were known to exist in the National Archive in Tirana, Albania. Western scholars had tried for decades to gain access to them. There were few success stories. A large part of the reason was due to the fact that Albania is a former police state. Only two of the manuscripts had ever been photographed, both with microfilm decades ago. Things changed dramatically in July.

    Introduction

It can be very helpful to learn that a change has taken place. When our five girls were young, I used to entertain them by going through a particular intersection at just the right speed. The intersection was elevated just enough from that of the roadway so that one’s stomach would respond as if one were riding on a roller coaster. The girls always squealed as I went through that spot. We had been on vacation for several weeks, and when we returned we happened upon our favorite intersection.

  • 1. The Historical Reliability of the Gospels

    Introduction

Christianity has always been the religion of the Book, the Bible. More specifically for this series, all Christians of all denominations cherish the four Biblical or canonical Gospels. But there is no pleasant way to put this. In the past decade – but also several before that – the Gospels have been assaulted by liberal scholars and other critics.

  • 2. What Makes the Church So Special?

    Introduction

Perhaps you’ve seen the television commercial in which a doctor instructs his patient how to perform surgery on himself – all over the phone. The “patient” asks the doctor, “Shouldn’t you be doing this?” One would expect something as serious as surgery to be performed by a surgeon – not by the patient. The same is true for the church. If the church is important, and its mission critical, then one would think that God would have significant involvement.

  • I have a friend that has confessed she can not understand why has God put her here on earth. She is 33 years old and has not been able to find someone to marry. Can you help me minister to her?

My heart goes out to your friend, who is so desperately sad. I take it that a substantial part of her sadness is due to the fact the she is single, and wants so much to be married.

I would begin by asking whether or not this young woman has trusted in Christ for her salvation. Either way, this would surely be important to know.

Her question – “Why has God put her on earth?” – is perhaps best summarized in the first point of the Westminster Shorter Catechism.
