Samaritan Ministries is Outstanding

This is not a normal bible.org article, nor is this a paid for article. I/we get nothing in return, but I had such a good experience with Samaritan Ministries as our health care sharing partner this past year that I wanted to "share."

In May 2023, I missed the top step going down the stairs at my house, heading to my 6:00 tee time. I had my right hand on the railing, hung on to break the fall, and ripped my right shoulder out of socket. I had to have surgery June 27th to repair all the rotator cuff stuff, reattach the biceps tendon. The doc told me he fixed six different things.  The recovery took six months before I was able to golf again. There was a chiropractor visit, MRI, doctor visit, x-rays, surgery, followups, Physical Therapy. The total was $30,000. I paid only $400. Well, I actually paid $30,000 at the time of treatment, surgery, and PT, but after I filed the "need," about 45 families sent me $650 along with notes of encouragement saying that they were praying for me. It was very encouraging.

Had I been paying my Blue Cross or Obamacare $1770 per month with the $10,000 deductible, I would have spent $21,240 (monthly premium), + $10,000 deductible = 31,240. I know you probably thinking, "Wait, you said it was only $30,000." Well, it was actually $70,00 but because I paid cash (credit card) in advance, I got discounts and it was $30,000. If the doctors had filed with insurance it would have been $70,000.

Samaritan Ministries didn't quibble with the fact that we saw a chiropractor first. Obamacare would not have been ok with that. They were OK with 40 PT visits, but I only needed 20. (Liberty Healthshare only allows 8 unless you request more, then they allow 12.)

Anyway, I just wanted to relay my experience with Samaritan Ministries and highly recommend them.

NET Bible Translation Series

We get emails all the time with questions about the NET Bible. People want to know why we didn’t use “Lucifer” in Isa 14:12, or why is Matt 18:11 “missing”? Or why did we say Junia was “well known to” instead of “prominent among” the apostles?  I also get questions about what is different about the NET Bible and thought it would be worth having a series where we discuss how the NET is different and give examples of verses where it differs from other translations and the reasons for doing so.

This series will help you understand topics like:
- The history of the NET Bible - why we needed it, who was involved, God’s hand in making it happen, etc.
- The history of the Bible in general - copying manuscripts, creation of the Textus Receptus, the creation of the King James Version, and the Majority Text Debate
- An overview of textual criticism and how to read the NET tc notes.
- The Literal versus Dynamic translation debate
- The Gender Inclusive translation debate
- The use of the New Testament when translating Old Testament passages
- Pros and Cons of the most popular translations

This is a video course, and except for the first class where we are just discussing the history of the NET Bibie, Greg Herrick and I will have many power point slides comparing several translations of the same verse so you can read along as we discuss the differences.

I hope you enjoy the series!
