Luke 14:25-35

When it comes to following Jesus, the Bible registers some pretty steep expectations. In some passages, Jesus lists significant disadvantages to becoming His follower, and invites people to weigh this important decision with careful consideration. Jesus claims that if we render anything less than whole-hearted devotion to Him, we cannot be His disciple. He also teaches that finishing strong is much more important than beginning well. So if we don’t think we’ll be able to live our lives for Him until the end, we should not even try to start. We should expect this, of course, if we understand the Gospel that eternally saves us. In return for Christ’s life given for us, it only makes sense that we would live our lives fully devoted to Him until the end.
