The Gospel of Luke tends to emphasize the poor more than the other Gospels do. Naturally then, Luke includes more of Jesus’ teachings about proper stewardship of one’s resources. The parable of the rich fool appears only in Luke’s Gospel, and warns against “all types of greed.” It reminds us to steward our resources and our time, knowing that even our very lives are on loan from God—the true Owner. We should strive to be rich toward God in this life because excessive attachment to our stuff can result in poverty toward God.
