The Book of Samuel (part eighteen)
Wisdom is rare. But some people have it in full measure. That was Abigail. Nabal the fool wronged David, and David wanted to wrong him in return. David and his men prepared to enact their own violent revenge on Nabal’s family. Enter Abigail, Nabal’s wife. She was everything her husband was not. He was evil; she was good. He was a fool; she was wise. In a bold move, Abigail dispensed her wisdom to David unsolicited. David wisely took her counsel and disaster was averted. More than that, God was involved in this story that ends with a twist that punishes the fool and rewards the wise in an unexpected way. Some people have wisdom in full measure; those of us who don’t should surround ourselves by those who do.
