The Gospel of John (part eleven)
The Roman prefect Pontius Pilate did not come to believe in Jesus, but he still had a powerful encounter with the Lord just prior to ordering His execution. The Jewish leaders presented Jesus to Pilate, asking for His death. Jesus is identified as the King of the Jews and the Son of God. He claims to embody Truth. The Gospel of John goes to great lengths to exonerate Pilate, placing the blame for Jesus’ unjust trial and execution on the Jewish leaders. Jesus came to His own, and His own did not receive Him. King Jesus, the Son of God, is rejected and crucified, becoming an innocent substitute for guilty rebels like Barabbas. Like me. Like you.
