Reality is tough. This fallen world is filled with pain and sorrow and sin. God’s will for us is to live in the world while avoiding as much tainting and corruption as possible. But this proves unachievable in our own power, and still very difficult by the power of the Holy Spirit. Because of this difficult life, Christians and non-Christians alike too often seek to escape reality rather than endure it. We pour ourselves into excess sleep, excess work, and excess entertainment—and we pour excess food into ourselves—all in a feeble effort to avoid living godly, Spirit-filled lives within the reality God has provided for us. Escapism. Avoidance. Flight. Where do you run when the pressure of life squeezes you out of your comfort?
