This is an audio sermon on the parable of the Unforgiving Servant.
What is forgiveness? How do you know when you’ve forgiven someone? Can you choose to forgive someone, or is it something that just happens apart from your control? Must the other person ask for your forgiveness before you can offer it? Must they show genuine remorse before you are obligated to forgive them? Is there someone in your life that you need to ask for forgiveness?
In the parable of the unforgiving servant, Jesus provides a perspective on forgiveness that effectively expands his disciples’ view of God. All forgiveness, after all, begins with God’s forgiveness of us. It is first and foremost a supernatural activity. It forms the basis of our security, as well as a sure footing (and precedence) to forgive others. Before tackling the seemingly insurmountable task of extending forgiveness to someone who has wronged you, first reflect upon the immeasurable forgiveness the Lord has provided for you and me.
