Where the world comes to study the Bible

  • How could God allow so many to die on the Titanic?

We really do not have the answers to such disasters. Such have occurred throughout history. Much of it is simply because we live in a sinful world because of the fall of the human race as described in Genesis 3. This disasters occurred not because God was any more angry with these people than anyone else. We are all sinners and saved only by the grace of God. Some of those who drowned were saved, that is, they knew Christ as their personal Savior and they were taken into God’s presence.

  • What do you think of The Bible Code?

I own a copy of The Bible Code and have looked into the claims of this book. Even if the code were to be true (and I do not believe that it is), the nature of the claims would in no way affect the sufficiency of the Scripture. The Bible would still be accurate and provide us with all we need for salvation and sanctification. The Bible code would simply be providing some kind of key for the last days.

  • Should Christians use the name of an Egyptian sun god (Amen) as part of their worship?

The term “amen” is a very biblical word and concept used inclusively in the Bible. The fact that it is similar in spelling and sound to the name of a long-forgotten Egyptian sun god (at least for all practical purposes) is of no consequence unless one were using it in some kind of cult for the worship of this ancient false god who was no god at all.

As Christians use the term “amen,” it is not used as a name, but as an expression of agreement, a strong affirmation of a truth, or at the close of a prayer.

  • What is the difference between discernment and being judgmental?

It is important to understand the difference between being judgmental and discerning truth from error. In Matt. 7:1, the Lord said, “Do not judge lest you be judged.” Then, in verses 2-5 he warns against trying to correct others without first correcting what is wrong in our own lives. If we deal honestly deal with our own hearts, etc., then we have the responsibility to help others. But there is also a warning in verse 6. He said, “Do not give what is holy to dogs, and do not throw your pearls before swine” (vs. 6).

  • Has the “Missing Day” in Joshua been proven scientifically?

The following story has been circulating recently . . .

Did you know that the space program is busy proving that what has been called “myth” in the Bible is true? Mr. Harold Hill, President of the Curtis Engine Company in Baltimore Maryland, and a consultant in the space program, relates the following development: I think one of the most amazing things that God has for us today happened recently to our astronauts and space scientists at Green Belt, Maryland.

  • Why did the spirit from God make Saul lay naked before Samuel?

Saul’s action was the product of divine discipline from God. The “spirit from the Lord” was not the Holy Spirit, but an evil spirit

1 Sam. 16:14-23. As David was invested by the Spirit, that same Spirit left Saul. This is evidence of the fact that the presence or absence of the Holy Spirit in the Old Testament says nothing about salvation but only that His power worked in those whom God selected for service (cf. Jud. 3:10; 6:34; 13:25; 14:6; 1 Sam.

  • How did Aaron (Moses’ brother) survive being slaughtered when Pharaoh killed the first-born sons of Israelites?

Aaron was older than Moses and was not threatened by the decree of Pharaoh which took place at a later date. It only concerned those being born after the decree.

Ex. 2:1-2. Notice of Moses’ birth is commented on briefly. Obviously Pharaoh’s decree (1:16, 22) jeopardized Moses’ life. The names of Moses’ parents are not given here but in 6:20 it is learned that his father was Amram and his mother Jochebed, Amram’s aunt. This Levite couple had two other children: Miriam (15:20) and Aaron (6:20).

  • How did Adam name all the animals in one 24-hour day?

The material below is taken from Henry Morris’ book Biblical Creationism, which I think answers your questions. I hope it helps.

Before God formed Eve, however, he “introduced” Adam to the animals he had formed earlier in the day. Adam was to exercise dominion over them, so God told him to name them, giving each a name appropriate to the individual characteristics of each. The animals brought to him by God included “all cattle . . . the fowl of the air, and . . . every beast of the field” (Gen.

  • What was the Ark of the Covenant, and was it real?

The Ark of the Covenant was definitely real and was a part of the tabernacle, being placed in the Holy of Holies behind the curtain. I will include articles below from three Bible Dictionaries that will give you some information. It will be basically the same information, but each might add something more to help you. Your best source for concise information is in Bible Encyclopedias and Dictionaries. Some people believe the Ark is existence today, though hidden.

    From the New Bible Dictionary:

    ARK OF THE COVENANT.

  • Why do people say, “In Jesus’ name” when they finish praying?

Too often people use phrases in a ritualistic, religious way without understanding why, but the concept of praying “in Jesus’ name” has biblical origins and is how we should pray because of what it means. All aspects of one’s prayer life and the way we pray should be the product of biblical insight and faith according to the promises, principles, and purposes of prayer as taught in God’s Word. The origin of this phrase is found in both the teachings of Christ and in epistles.

Read carefully John 14:6 and then note 13; 15:15, and 16:23-24.
