Where the world comes to study the Bible

  • What is the unpardonable sin?

Matthew 12:31 Therefore I say to you, any sin and blasphemy shall be forgiven men, but blasphemy against the Spirit shall not be forgiven.”

The unpardonable sin is the sin of rejection. The unpardonable sin is defined as blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, because when Christ was on earth, the religious leaders were attributing his miracles to demonic powers when in fact they were the product of the Holy Spirit working in the life of Christ (Matt. 12:12-32).

  • Why must man suffer eternally for only living 60 or 70 years?

The whole issue of man’s eternal separation from God revolves around God’s holiness and man’s sinfulness. As Habbakuk. 1:13 states, God’s eyes are too pure to behold or approve evil and He cannot look upon sin. This does not mean God does not see man’s sinfulness, but that He cannot allow that sinfulness into His presence nor can He fellowship with such. But He is also a God of love and has made a way through the death of His Son that man might have fellowship with God. By faith in Christ, God imputes His righteousness to the sinner.

  • Is man responsible for the sins of his wife because he is the leader of the home?

The answer to your question is both “No” and “Yes.” That I actually force my wife to sin—as if I were making her do normal every day choices— I think is wrong. I cannot make her do something against her will (that is, without the use of the threat of physical force or the force itself). Therefore, in that sense, I am not responsible for her sin.

However, on the other hand, by creating an environment that causes her to stumble or that does not seek her best spiritual welfare I am sinning and responsible to the degree that I bring harm on her.

  • What about people who live and die without ever hearing the gospel?

In John 14:6 says, “I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me.” Then in Acts 4:12 Peter said, “And there is salvation in no one else; for there is no other name under heaven that has been given among men, by which we must be saved.” This is plain, there is only one way of salvation.

It is for this reason, the need of sharing the gospel, that Paul said what he did in Romans 10:8-15 and particularly in vss. 14-15.

8 But what does it say?

  • Is everyone a child of God?

We are all the offspring of God in the sense we are His products of the creative work of God (Acts 17:25ff), all men are not the children of God in a personal sense as a father with a son. Scripture teaches that God only dwells in those who have put their faith in Christ. All others, while God’s offspring by creation, have been separated from Him because of sin.

  • I have a hard time accepting that those who do not believe will perish.

I realize this may be hard to accept, but it is not a matter of theory or human opinion. It is a matter of God’s revelation in the Bible and specifically, the words of Jesus whom God raised from the dead to validate both His claims as the Son of God who is God of very God, but also all His Words and Works. Compare the following verses:

    Acts 2:22-24.

  • Does “corporate sin” mean babies and small children don’t go to heaven if they die?

The Bible does not give us a definite answer regarding the state of little children who are too young to understand the gospel and trust in Christ, but based on certain principles of Scripture, many believe (and I am one of them) children who are too young to grasp the issues of the gospel will be in heaven. The reason is simply this. Jesus Christ, God’s Son, died on the cross for the sin of the whole world (1 John 2:2; 1 Tim. 4:2). He and He alone is the Savior of all men, and the means of receiving that salvation is by personal faith in Christ.

  • What does the Bible say about the age of accountability?

“Accountability” is not a term explicitly found in Scripture. Rather it is an implicit and abstract concept that is, of course, biblical. This is obvious because of the many references to the various judgments and because of passages like Acts 17:31 and Romans 14:12. The last passage uses the English term, “give an account.” But I know of no passage that specifically speaks of an age of accountability even in an abstract way.
