Add to My Library Volunteering at Bible.org - Background
The dictionary defines a volunteer as a person who performs a service willingly and without pay. Historically bible.org been staffed by volunteers who have joined together to build a trusted faith-based community that builds one-another up and reaches out to the world. Just as in Nehemiah’s day each person used their skills or talent to build a portion of the wall. Whatever your skills, you as a volunteer can become a “wall builder”! Together we have come together under the umbrella of bible.org to build up Christ honoring communities around the world. It is within these communities that we hope to develop projects that will assist believers take their next step in faith and grow spiritually becoming “fishers of men” capable of leading unbelievers into a saving relationship with the Messiah. We read in Hosea God’s plea: “my people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge”. Today we are seeing the same consequence as we watch the “me” generation philosophy. Will you join us in “building the wall”? Will you join with our community to “build the wall” of trustworthy biblical teaching, helping people in their next step in faith, to protect the minds of the next generation so that we are “without reproach”, that is a people who have a lack of knowledge?
The bible.org volunteers have become our life-blood and our energy! It is with your help that we can develop strong Christian communities and obtain training and skills to use the freely available NETBible study tools that will assist believers in their their next step in faith. Christ expects our end goal to be that we finish the race well, that we are successful in His eyes and that we gain the rewards/crowns discussed in the scripture.
Some FAQ’s:
1. Why Volunteer Now?
A . We know our society is growing more and more hostile toward Christian values and we must join together to prepare each other and our children to live Godly lives in this post Christian culture. If we understand Bible prophecy correctly, this is to be expected as we approach the last days. We sense in our spirit that the bible.org team is well positioned to be a leader to change the path our current culture is moving into. To be successful in this challenge, the Bible.org team must move from just producing “free trustworthy content” to one of building a community that can use scripture to grow in Faith. We must build a strong Biblical skills community culture within the core team of volunteers and transfer that culture and skills to our families, our churches and our users. Today's reality is that many Christian families are losing their children to the secular world view and some predict that the church, as we know it today, will disappear. In Ken Ham’s recent publication he discusses research that says the Children in our Churches are “already gone”. He produced a webcast where he talks about a research study that found we are losing our kids in elementary, middle school, and high school rather than college. To change this reality and meet the pressing needs of the church and family Bible.org needs to expand its mission to build a trusted faith based community that prepares each member to know what the Bible says and to be able to defend it. The Bible.org community needs to be “Helping Individuals and Churches Grow”. God commands us all to mature spiritually and be “practicing Christians” so when we finish this life we receive the rewards/crowns that He has for us. When you join the other volunteers at Bible.org you can accomplish a task for which you are best suited. Think of it as an exchange. You have a skill that the body of Christ needs and when you are exercising your gift to the community, you become the giver and God in return will use your gift to enrich others and you will receive a blessing for your obedience to His Word. Would you consider joining bible.org in the race that Paul talks about and sharing your time, talents, monies, and prayers so that when the race is over you hear the words well done good and faithful servant because you have finished the race well? Matthew 25:23 and you receive the crown of righteousness 2 Tim 4:7-8.
B: You are being obedient to the biblical model:
As seen in the lives of the disciples. In Matt 19 Jesus answered Peter’s question: Mat 19:27 Then Peter said to him, "Look, we have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?" Jesus responded by reminding the disciples that there will be great rewards for those who willingly serve and give of their lives for the benefit of the kingdom.
As seen in the advice that Moses’ father-in-law Jethro gave him: “What you are doing is not good, you will wear out”. Perhaps this is where the old adage has come to us: “many hands make light work” which is a shortened version of Eccl 4:1
C: We have been praying that the Lord would send us volunteers Luke 10:2, because the battle rages as the devil is actively seeking to devour his prey1Peter 5:8 because the need is great, and the fields are white for harvest, John 4:35, but the task will not be easy and you can expect Satan will attempt to discourage Heb 12:1-4 . We must all look to Christ for strength as this is a spiritual battle and we must fight it with spiritual weapons and much prayer. (We have set up a prayer journal just for the volunteers). We are looking for those people whom God is calling and will stay the course. This is just not about the fact that we are in need of help, but we are looking for people who want to make a difference in someone’s life and be involved in “Helping Individuals and Churches Grow”. We are reminded of Nehemiah. He had a vision to complete the wall to protect the people of Jerusalem and realized that he could not do it alone. He traversed at night the wall and saw the great task before him. He called the people together and gave them a challenge: “Let us build up the wall…and they said: let us rise up and build”. In 52 days, each one building the wall in front of them, they accomplished the task. This is the biblical model; each one working at his task alongside the rest so that we may build the wall in the days God has given us. In addition, we have a mandate from the book of Ezekiel:
Ezek 33:6 But suppose the watchman sees the sword coming and does not blow the trumpet to warn the people. Then the sword comes and takes one of their lives. He is swept away for his iniquity, but I will hold the watchman accountable for that person’s death.’
The mandate is clear and the warning is clear and we must be about the Master’s business and accomplish this task! Without your help the wall will not be built, and our inaction will result in people without Christ not being warned and Christians not Taking the next step in faith and as a consequence God we will be held accountable for our inaction at judgment day.
D. We have an opportunity to harness the Internet for God and to greatly increase the Kingdom of God in our lifetime. This is a great task that God has called us to do and He has gifted us to accomplish. Join us as we serve the Lord together.
