Who Heals the Sick? (John 4:46-53)

Printer-friendly versionSend to friend

Abstract

Like His first sign, Jesus’ second sign in the Gospel of John also takes place in Cana of Galilee. Well, sort of. Jesus performs His second miracle from a distance of 20 miles away. Jesus was in Cana when He spoke the word, but the healing itself took place in Capernaum. A desperate father, who also happened to be a royal official, asked Jesus to heal his son who seemed to be on the verge of death. Jesus responded with a sort of test to determine where the man’s faith was—and he passed the test. Jesus healed the concerned father’s son completely. But it was not enough to Jesus that the official’s son would recover; Jesus wanted his entire family to enjoy eternal life. The result of this sign is recorded for us: “he himself believed along with his entire household.”
