What a Waste! (Parable of the Rich Fool)

This is an audio sermon on the parable of the Rich Fool.

Abstract

Gary Inrig writes, “To be a fool in God’s eyes is to have missed the point of life.” That’s a profound statement. We all know people who have clearly missed the point of life. Perhaps you lived much of your life missing the point. At the end of life we are left with one sober conclusion: What a waste!

Stephen Covey popularized the idea that the main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing. When we miss the point of life—when we neglect the main thing—we do so because other options cloud our perspective. We get distracted from the point of life because we prioritize money or physical health or reputations or anything else above the main thing. These intangibles creep up the ladder of our priorities until they overtake those God has clearly defined.

In the parable of the rich fool, Jesus tells the story of a rich man who missed the point of life. His conclusion: What a waste! Jesus cautions us to guard against allowing anything to distract us from the main thing.
