What Are You Waiting For? (Parable of the Prodigal Son)

Printer-friendly versionSend by email

Abstract

Have you ever let someone down, disappointed someone, or hurt someone’s feelings? Probably so. Do you remember the feelings you experienced when you realized you had to go to them and apologize or ask for forgiveness? Were you scared? Intimidated? Ashamed? Humiliated? Maybe you had questions going through your mind, like “Will they forgive me?” or “Will they yell at me?” or “Will our relationship ever be the same again?” You probably even rehearsed how you were going to apologize.

If we’re honest, we’ve all been there in our relationship with God. We mess up . . . again. We bide our time knowing we need to ask Him for forgiveness. We rehearse what we’re going to say ahead of time. Maybe we’re even a little ashamed since this is the tenth time we’ve come to Him this week—and it’s only Monday! Welcome to the Parable of the Prodigal Son. Isn't it refreshing to know that Jesus knew you needed to hear this.
