Abstract

At last we arrive at Paul’s concluding remarks which are characteristically bold. Here, Paul defends the integrity and scope of his ministry, and describes his plans for the immediate future. Far be it from Paul to set his sights too low. For most evangelists traveling from Judea, Rome would be “the ends of the earth.” But for Paul, Rome was merely a rest stop on his way to Spain—“where Christ has not been named.” Paul had a passion to preach the Gospel globally. Before traveling to Spain, however, Paul must go east to Jerusalem with money collected for the poor among the Jewish Christians there. He asks for prayer for safety and provides a hint as to why he wrote so thoroughly to the Romans he was making plans to visit.
