Abstract

Our children bring joy into our lives. But the Christ Child brought joy to the entire world (I don’t recall the world throwing a party when my children were born). Jesus was an important figure, and yet the angel chose to reveal His birth to shepherds—not kings or diplomats or wealthy executives. Shepherds! Of course, this makes sense if we listen to the message the angel delivered: “I proclaim to you good news that brings great joy to all the people.” ALL people. Not some, not just important people, not just wealthy people, not just smart people. ALL people. And that includes shepherds. And that includes us. The Great Shepherd, revealed to shepherds, and coming to redeem His sheep. The birth of Jesus was supposed to bring great joy into your life. Are you joyful this Christmas?
