A More Desirable Reward (Hebrews 10:32-39)

Abstract

The first century church knew intimately the high cost of following Jesus. They were persecuted. Persecution passages are perplexing to a culture that doesn’t experience real persecution. Christians being in the minority is not persecution. Inconvenience is not persecution. Not having one’s favorite Party in the White House is not persecution. It’s not that we should seek persecution, but we should seek those who are being persecuted. Ignoring the world’s persecuted Christians is more comfortable, more convenient, and less costly to us than coming alongside them. The author of Hebrews credits standing alongside those who are persecuted with the same nobility as being persecuted oneself. So I have to ask myself: Do I seek out persecuted Christians in the world today in order to stand with them?
