Luke 15:11-32

Jesus’ parable of the Prodigal Son is one of His most famous. The younger brother represents the unsaved sinner who lives recklessly, but eventually comes to his senses and repents. The Father welcomes him with a huge celebration upon his repentance. The older brother refuses to join in the celebration of his brother’s repentance, perhaps questioning its legitimacy. The point of the parable: When a lost sinner repents—no matter how lost he once was—it is appropriate to celebrate their salvation in a large and public way. If we don’t see the lost repenting today, we may lack diligence in witnessing; if we don’t celebrate when the lost repent, we may lack understanding of the Gospel.
