How to Give Generously (James 5:1-6)

Printer-friendly versionSend by email

Abstract

The Bible has a lot to say about money. We are encouraged to be financially responsible and have financial plans. In fact, God is pleased when we set financial goals, when we plan and plot and think strategically about money.

Stop! Be honest: When you read the above sentences were you thinking about acquiring money or giving away money? Usually, when we discuss financial plans we assume the goal is to gain more money. I believe God is please when we think strategically about money – that is, how to give it away! Do you spend more time thinking and plotting ways to acquire money or more time thinking and plotting ways to give it away? James offers an urgent warning to those who spend an unhealthy amount of energy acquiring and hoarding.
