Should infants be baptized?

Printer-friendly versionSend by email

Water baptism is an evidence of one’s personal faith and understanding of the truths of Romans 6 as they demonstrate the results of our being united with or joined into union with Christ by the baptizing work of the Spirit (1 Cor. 12:12-13). Infants cannot grasp this truth and baptizing an infant cannot ensure they will one day respond to Christ by faith. It is certainly never commanded in the New Testament nor is there an illustration of this. Acts 16:31 is a beautiful illustration of the need of personal faith for all members of one’s household. “And they said, ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you shall be saved, you and your household.’” The words, “and your household,” must be connected with “believe” as well as “be saved.” Each member of the household must believe in order to be saved.
