Contradicting Hardship with Uncommon Gratitude (Philippians 1:1-11)

Printer-friendly versionSend by email

Abstract

The papers, the radio, and the television are daily reminders of the cultural suffering that is affecting each of us on a personal level. But this cloud of gloom presents Christians with a unique opportunity to respond in unexpected ways. With Christ as our Savior, our eternal perspective gives us a positive outlook even when forecasters claim that our futures are bleak. By demonstrating Christian gratitude, joy, and unselfishness, our faith stands out like bright colors on a gray backdrop. These traits are uncommon today, and demonstrating them will get people’s attention. We’re called to be lights in the world even when the circumstances are at their darkest. By the power of the Spirit, we can be walking contradictions in this doom and gloom culture.
